How do I find out whether ChatGPT or Perplexity recommend my brand?

You ask them, at scale, and record what comes back. GEO MarketMap puts your category's real questions to the major assistants, records which brands each answer names and which sources it cites, and tracks that over weeks — because a single day's answer is noise and the trend is the signal.

Where do the questions come from?

From what people actually search, not from a brainstorm. Search demand data gives the phrasings and the volume behind each one, so the questions being tracked are the ones with somebody behind them.

The detail+

If you connect Google, your own search queries join that set. Those are the questions you already half-rank for, which makes them the cheapest ground to win.

02 / 04

Why does being named matter more than ranking?

Because the click is going away. According to the Pew Research Center, which tracked 68,879 Google searches by 900 adults in March 2025, people clicked a traditional result in 8% of searches that showed an AI summary against 15% of those that did not — and clicked a link inside the summary itself in "1% of all visits".

The detail+

So the answer is increasingly the destination. Ranking third for a question whose answer nobody clicks through from is a worse position than being the brand that answer names.

03 / 04

How is a mention different from a citation?

A mention is the assistant naming your brand in its answer. A citation is the assistant pointing at a page as the source it is drawing on. They come apart constantly: you can be named without any of your pages being read, and your page can be cited in an answer that names a competitor.

The detail+

Both are recorded, because they need opposite work. Being uncited means writing something worth quoting. Being unnamed while cited means the page does not say clearly enough whose it is.

04 / 04

How confident are you that a mention is really us?

It depends on the assistant, and we say which. Some hand back the brands in an answer already resolved as entities; one gives no such reading, and there the name has to be judged from the words around it.

The detail+

Both are honest and they are not the same evidence, so a figure never averages them silently. You will see "named in 12 of your 20 questions, though 3 of those we could not confirm are you" rather than a clean number covering a messy one.

Also asked

How often are the assistants asked?
+
On a schedule you set, and the reading that matters is the trend over weeks. Assistants re-crawl and re-rank constantly, so a single day's answer is not a result.
Which assistants are covered?
+
The ones your customers use: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI answers and Gemini.
Can you tell me who is named instead of us?
+
Yes, and it is usually the more useful half. Every answer records the brands it named and the sources it cited, so a question you are missing from comes with the list of who took the place.
