How do I know which pages are worth writing?

By starting from demand rather than from ideas. Real search volumes around your category are gathered, clustered into distinct intents — one cluster per page worth writing — and then matched against what your site already covers, so what comes back is the list of questions you have no answer for.

Five of the eleven phrasings that collapsed into one page. The other six mean the same thing and would have been six thin pages competing with each other. Figures shown are an example of the shape, not a customer's numbers.

How is this different from a keyword list?

A keyword list is a spreadsheet. Up to 1,000 phrasings are gathered and grouped into intents, each one a page: the wordings that mean the same thing collapse together, so you write once rather than 11 times, and each group carries the demand behind it.

Each is then checked against your existing pages, so a subject you already answer well does not appear as a gap. The list you get is the work that does not exist yet.

Does it cover what people ask assistants, not just search engines?

Both, and they differ. Search demand tells you the volume behind a phrasing. Assistant questions are longer, more conversational, and often have no search volume at all while being exactly what somebody types into a chat window.

The detail+

The two are converging fast. According to the Pew Research Center, 18% of all Google searches it tracked in March 2025 already produced an AI summary, and 58% of the people in the study saw at least one that month. Their report is titled "Google users are less likely to click on links when an AI summary appears in the results", which is the whole problem in one line. A question set built only from classic search volume is planning for the shrinking 82%.

The gaps that matter most are the questions with real demand where an assistant currently names somebody else.

Also asked

Where does the search volume come from?
+
From search-demand data covering the phrasings people actually use, gathered per project rather than sampled from a fixed list.
Will it tell me what my competitors rank for and I do not?
+
Yes. That gap list is usually the shortest path to work worth doing, because somebody has already proved the demand exists.
